Flavors Used:

If you’re craving a Dantastic fish sandwich that’s simple to make but absolutely loaded with flavor, you’re in the right place. This is one of those recipes that doesn’t try too hard—fresh fish, a quick homemade tartar sauce, and a few good toppings all coming together in one skillet. No deep fryer, no complicated steps, just honest cooking that tastes like something you’d order at your favorite seaside spot… only better, because you made it yourself. Serve with Cajun Garlic Fries, and you’ve got a restaurant-level meal.

Ingredients

For the sandwich

  • 1 packet Dan-O’s Dill Dip
  • 1 fresh skinless cod fillet
  • 1 brioche bun
  • 1 Sliced tomato
  • Slices of red onion
  • 1-2 slices of cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup Plain coleslaw mix
  • Olive oil

For the dill sauce:

  • 1 or 2 tsp Dan-O’s Dips Dill - depends on how dilly you like it, add 1 tsp and add more to taste
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

Preparation Instructions

  1. Start with the dill sauce: Get all your ingredients in a bowl and just give it a good stir. Cover it up, throw it in the fridge, and let those flavors get happy until we’re ready to eat. If you want to make it a slaw, stir in the coleslaw mix.
  2. Prep the fish: Pull that fish out of the fridge and let it hang out on the counter for about 30 minutes. We don’t want it ice cold. Pat it dry real good, then sprinkle both sides with some Dan-O’s Dips Dill. Not too much, not too little—just enough to cover lightly.
  3. Fire up a skillet over medium heat, drizzle in a little oil, and lay that fish in there nice and gentle. Drizzle a little lemon juice over the fish while cooking. Let it cook about 3 to 4 minutes per side until it’s cooked through and looking good. This will depend on how thick the piece of cod is, use a thermometer to test for 145°F internal temp. Good luck keeping it in one piece; mine was quite thick and fell apart into big flakes, but it’s still delicious.
  4. Once the fish comes out, toss those buns in the skillet, cut-side down. Let them toast up for about a minute. You want a little color and a little crunch—nothing crazy.
  5. Build the sandwich: Start by placing the cheese on the bun, then add the fish, tomato, and onion—feel free to customize it as you like. Generously spread tartar sauce on the inside of the top bun or if you went the slaw route, pile that on top - it’s gonna be messy!
  6. Stack it up, smash it together, and that right there is a sandwich. Multiply the ingredients to make more servings! Yum Yum Get Ya Sum!®
