Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Dan-O’s Preem-O®
  • 1 pound strip steak
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 8 oz mushrooms
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1/2 small white onion
  • 3 tbsp olive oil, divided
  • 3 oz blue cheese crumbles
  • 6 slices spicy cheddar cheese
  • 8 oz hot giardiniera pepper blend
  • 1 loaf Italian semolina bread

Preparation Instructions

  1. Prepare the Steak: Cut the strip steak into three thin pieces and trim off any excess fat. Rub mayonnaise on both sides of the steak and season generously with Dan-O’s Preem-O®.
  2. Cook the Vegetables: Slice the mushrooms, red bell pepper, and onion into long strips. In a pan, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over high heat. Add the chopped vegetables to the pan. Add a splash of water and sprinkle more Dan-O’s Preem-O® over the vegetables, sauté for 5 to 7 minutes until they are tender. Set aside.
  3. Sear the Steak: In the same hot pan, add the steak and sear for 1 to 2 minutes on each side, or until cooked to your liking. Remove the steak from the pan and set aside.
  4. Prepare the Bread: Cut the Italian semolina bread in half and brush the cut sides with the remaining olive oil. Place the bread halves in the oven and bake until crispy.
  5. Assemble the Sandwich: On the bottom half of the crispy bread, layer the blue cheese crumbles, followed by the seared steak, giardiniera pepper blend, and 3 slices of spicy cheddar cheese. On the top half of the bread, layer the remaining spicy cheddar cheese and the sautéed vegetables.
  6. Melt the Cheese: Place both halves of the sandwich (open-faced) in the oven on broil for 2 to 3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Carefully place the top half of the sandwich on the bottom half to complete your steak sandwich.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy your flavorful Italian Steak Sandwich!
