Cabbage Soup

Feed the whole gang with this cabbage soup recipe! Cabbage soup holds a special place in my heart as it reminds me of my childhood. It was one of my mom’s go-to dishes; she worked full-time and had a house full of kids, so she needed something easy, filling, and quick to prepare. Now, she makes it with Dan-O’s, and it remains a family tradition with mine. Sausages, carrots and bacon combine with the cabbage to make this mouthwatering cabbage soup recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Dan-O's Original
  • 1/2 pound bacon, chopped
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 2 chopped kielbasa sausages
  • 2 large carrots, chopped (approximately 2 cups)
  • 1 medium-sized head of cabbage, chopped
  • 6 cups chicken stock

Preparation Instructions

  1. In a large pot, add the chopped bacon and diced yellow onion.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and the onion is caramelized.
  3. Add the chopped kielbasa to the pot. Continue cooking until the kielbasa starts to release its grease and caramelize with the bacon and onions.
  4. Stir in the chopped carrots and cook for a couple of minutes.
  5. Add the chopped cabbage to the pot, followed by the chicken stock.
  6. Sprinkle generously in the Dan-O's Original and stir well.
  7. Cover the pot with a lid and let it simmer for 30 minutes.
  8. After 30 minutes, stir and enjoy your Dan Good Cabbage Soup!
