A Dan-good take on shakshuka
Salaam aleikum! Today we have a real treat for you with this Dan-O’s Chipotle Inspired shakshuka, full of rich vibrant flavor that will start your day off right no matter what! This dish is easy to make and can be done for breakfast, or really any meal. It’s hearty and filling without being too heavy to carry on with your day.
Love Shakshuka, baby, Love Shakshuka
Shakshuka is a traditional North African and Middle Eastern dish. Its name translates to “a mixture”, and its most classic version uses tomatoes, onions, and spices as the base with eggs poached on top. Over the years, there have been many variations of Shakshuka, so there’s a lot of room for improv when making this tasty dish! It’s commonly thought that Shakshuka is spicy, and it certainly can be. We find that with Dan-O’s Chipotle you get just enough heat, while still packing in a lot of the classic flavors you’d expect from Shakshuka!
Recipe Ingredients
- Dan-O’s Chipotle – Dan-O’s Chipotle combines ingredients from our Original Seasoning blend with the spicy, sweet, and smoky flavors of chipotle giving this Shakshuka a spicy kick while still staying true to it’s roots.
- Chipotle Peppers in Adobo sauce– These peppers offer a sweet, smoky, tangy, and spicy flavor. You can add these to your tastes but we recommend at least one.
- Toasted bread – This is the under-appreciated part of the dish, it’s perfect for plating or dipping. We like using a nice crusty baguette but a good toasted sourdough would also work well.
- Cheese – While not a requirement, it definitely can add another layer of great flavor to this already robust dish. You can use anything from Feta to goat cheese or even mozzarella!

Can something as tasty as shakshuka be healthy?
Of course! Shakshuka can be rich in vitamins A, C, K, Folate, and potassium with lots of protein and if you use feta cheese, it offers a good dose of calcium! Not to mention this dish is traditionally vegetarian which is a bonus for some.
What do you serve with shakshuka?
We recommended bread to go with this dish but if you want more sides to go you’ve got plenty of options. Traditionally, this dish is served with a plate of fresh seasonal fruit. You could also serve with Rice perhaps, or some homestyle potatoes for more carb loaded options. You can check out our sides recipes for more ideas.
