Lemon Pepper Wet Chicken Wings

Lemon Pepper Wet Chicken Wings

Flavors Used:

Lemon pepper wet chicken wings, my friends. It’s an Atlanta thing, and now it’s a Dan-O’s thing. If you know, you know…lemon pepper wings are legendary because they’ve got that crispy, tangy, saucy flavor that just hits different. So today, we’re taking that classic wing-shop favorite and putting a Dan-O’s spin on it with Dan-O’s Lemon Pepper Seasoning and a creamy lemon pepper ranch made with Dan-O’s Dips Ranch. I tried these in corn oil, and let me tell you, they came out crispy, but that oil was pop, pop, popping all over the kitchen. So if you go that route, take it outside, my friends. These wings are crispy, saucy, tangy, and straight-up Dan-Good.

Ingredients

  • 5 tbsp Dan-O’s Lemon Pepper Seasoning, divided
  • 1 packet Dan-O’s Dips Ranch
  • 3 lb chicken wings, all flats
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 4 cups corn oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup wing sauce, divided
  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk, plus more as needed

Preparation Instructions

  1. Coat the Wings: Add the chicken wings to a large bowl. Add the cornstarch, flour, and 2 tbsp Dan-O’s Lemon Pepper Seasoning, then toss until the wings are evenly coated. Add the water and toss again until the dry coating becomes wet and sticks to the wings.
  2. Heat the Oil: Add the corn oil to a large frying pan or pot and heat it to 375°F. Corn oil can heat quickly and pop while frying, so use caution. If cooking outside is an option, that is the cleaner way to go.
  3. Fry the First Batch: Carefully add about half of the wings to the hot oil. After about 1 minute, gently move the wings around so they do not stick together. Fry for about 8 minutes, or until the wings are crispy, golden, and cooked through.
  4. Season While Hot: Transfer the fried wings to a bowl while they are still hot. Sprinkle with 1 tbsp Dan-O’s Lemon Pepper Seasoning and toss so the seasoning sticks to the wings. Let them sit for a few minutes so the flavor can soak in.
  5. Sauce and Toss: Add 1/4 cup wing sauce to the seasoned wings and toss until evenly coated. This gives the wings that lemon pepper wet finish.
  6. Repeat with the Remaining Wings: Fry the remaining wings the same way. Once they are hot out of the oil, toss them with 1 tbsp Dan-O’s Lemon Pepper Seasoning, then add the remaining wing sauce and toss until coated.
  7. Make the Lemon Pepper Ranch Dip: Add the mayonnaise and buttermilk to a bowl. Stir in the Dan-O’s Dips Ranch until smooth, then add the remaining 1 tbsp Dan-O’s Lemon Pepper Seasoning and stir again. Add a little more buttermilk as needed until it reaches a creamy, restaurant-style ranch consistency.
  8. Serve: Serve the lemon pepper wet wings hot with the lemon pepper ranch dip on the side. Yum Yum Get Ya Sum!
