French Dip Sandwich

French Dip Sandwich

Flavors Used:

If there’s one thing I love, it’s taking flavors from all over and marrying them into one Dantastic, over-the-top, Dan-o-myte bite. This French Dip sandwich brings pot-roast tenderness together with Italian-beef attitude, finished with that bold Blackened Bloody Mary kick that pulls it all together.

Ingredients

For the Beef

  • 3 tbsp Dan-O’s Outlaw Blackened Bloody Mary Seasoning
  • 3 lb chuck roast
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 celery stalks, cut into large chunks
  • 1 large onion, quartered
  • 4 carrots, cut into large chunks
  • 1 packet au jus mix
  • 2 cups beef broth (after deglazing)
  • 1 (16 oz) jar pepperoncini peppers with the juice

For the Sandwich

  • 1 tbsp Dan-O’s Outlaw Blackened Bloody Mary Seasoning
  • 1 large Chicago-style Italian loaf (or large French loaf)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1–1.5 cups giardiniera (mild or hot)

Preparation Instructions

  1. Season & Sear the Roast: Coat the chuck roast with oil. Season generously with Blackened Bloody Mary.
  2. Heat a skillet with a little oil until very hot. Sear the roast 1–2 minutes per side until deeply browned. Transfer the roast to your Instant Pot.
  3. Build Your Flavor Base: Deglaze the hot pan with a splash of beef broth, scraping all browned bits. Add celery, carrots, and onions. Add Dan-O’s Outlaw Blackened Bloody Mary, Au jus packet, deglazed beef broth, and the jar of pepperoncini peppers with the juice
  4. Pressure Cook: Seal the Instant Pot. Cook on High Pressure for 2.5 hours. Let it naturally release. Ideally 45–60 minutes.
  5. Strain & Prepare the Meat: Remove the roast and place on a cutting board. Strain the cooking liquid and save the juice for dipping. Discard vegetables. Chop or shred the beef into tender chunks.
  6. Toast the Bread: Slice your Italian loaf lengthwise. Place in a 400°F oven for about 5 minutes until lightly crusted.
  7. Build the Sandwich: Bottom half: pile on all the chopped roast beef. Top half: spread giardiniera evenly from end to end. Add shredded mozzarella to both sides (heavy is the way). Sprinkle generously with Dan-O’s Outlaw Blackened Bloody Mary.
  8. Return the whole assembled loaf to the 400°F oven. Bake for 8–10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
  9. Slice into hearty pieces and serve with a cup of that reserved au jus for dipping. Yum yum get ya sum!
