Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp Dan-O’s Cajun
  • 1 package of crescent dough sheet
  • 1 packet of smoked sausages (e.g., Little Smokies)
  • ½ cup baking soda
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp Kosher salt
  • 1 cup Velveeta cheese
  • ¼ cup milk

Preparation Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F.
  2. Prepare the Dough: Roll out the crescent dough sheet on a clean surface. Stretch and even it out to prepare for cutting. Lightly oil your hands and a knife to prevent sticking. Cut the dough into strips, suitable for wrapping around the sausages.
  3. Wrap the Sausages: Take a strip of dough and wrap it around each smoked sausage. Ensure they are fully covered.
  4. Boil the Sausages: In a pot of boiling water, add ½ cup of baking soda and reduce to a medium boil. Carefully drop in the wrapped sausages and cook until they float (approximately 30 seconds). Remove and set aside.
  5. Prepare the Egg Wash: In a bowl, crack one egg and whisk it well with a fork. Brush the egg mixture over the wrapped sausages and sprinkle with kosher salt.
  6. Place the wrapped sausages on a baking sheet and bake for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Make the Dan-O’s Cajun Queso: Cut the Velveeta cheese into chunks and place it in a saucepan over low heat.
  8. Add ¼ cup of milk and stir until melted and smooth.
  9. Sprinkle generously with Dan-O’s Cajun.
  10. Once the pigs in a blanket are done baking, serve them warm with Dan-O’s Cajun queso in a bowl for dipping.
