The Candy Cane Caprese Salad by Linnea Biggs (@linneahhhhh) offers a Dantastic blend of flavors that evoke the holiday spirit. The main ingredients, ripe red tomatoes and fresh mozzarella cheese, create a perfect balance of sweet and tangy notes, complemented by the aromatic basil. This dish draws inspiration from the classic Caprese salad, hailing from Italy, and is reimagined in the festive shape of a candy cane, making it perfect for holiday gatherings.


  • 2-3 large red tomatoes
  • 16oz fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • Bunch of basil
  • 1/4 cup balsamic dressing
  • 3/4 cup olive oil
  • 1-3 tablespoons of Dan-O’s Cheesoning

Preparation Instructions

  1. In a bowl or a jar with a tight-fitting lid, combine the balsamic vinegar, olive oil, and Dan-O’s Cheesoning Seasoning. Whisk or shake vigorously to emulsify the dressing. Set aside.
  2. Wash and slice the tomatoes into 1/4 inch thick slices.
  3. On a serving platter or individual plates, alternate the slices of tomato and mozzarella, slightly overlapping them to form the shape of a candy cane.
  4. Add a bunch of basil to the side or in between slices of tomatoes and cheese.
  5. The Caprese salad is best enjoyed fresh, so serve it immediately and enjoy!
