Disputed Origins of Yum Yum Sauce
You, like so many others, might naturally assume that Yum Yum sauce is a classic Japanese condiment but it’s really not. Thanks to Nancy Singleton Hachisu, an author of cookbooks that focus on both traditional and modern Japanese cooking, we know that there’s no distinct evidence of its use in Japanese cuisine. It’s not found in any Japanese steak house either. There’s no clear answer to where Yum Yum sauce came from, some say it’s a mixture of American and Modern Japanese tastes for mayo but that’s pure speculation. What we do know is that almost every Hibachi in America has their own version of Yum Yum Sauce.
