Philly Cheesesteak Sliders

Philly Cheesesteak Sliders

Flavors Used:

Get ready for the perfect addition to your Saint Patrick’s Day party with these philly cheesesteak sliders. Philadelphia has been routinely voted the best city to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day, with Boston being second. That means besides green beer, and shamrocks, that a philly cheesesteak is just as at home with the holiday. Tender buttery beef with mouth watering bell peppers and onion before being topped with a classic can of cheez whiz makes these philly cheesesteak sliders irresistible.

Gee whiz, it’s cheez whiz

When Philly cheesesteak first hit the scene in Philadelphia, the debate of which cheese to go with was American or provolone. Sometime in the 1950s, Frank Olivier SR. of the legendary Pat’s King of Steaks, started keeping Cheez Whiz by the grill and telling customers to try it. It wasn’t an overnight hit but slowly it started getting replicated by others. Some folk remember that in the mid 50s and early 60s, that American was the standard for cheesesteaks originally.

Eventually as Whiz grew in popularity, both American and provolone fell out of favor until they’d return until the mid 70s. But in modern times, the debate of which cheese runs deep. Some hardcore Philly residents claim the Whiz ain’t got nothing on American, and some say the Whiz is the only way. At the end of the day, the only way you’ll know is to try these philly cheesesteak sliders yourself.
