Spicy Sweet and Sour Pork tenderloin

Spicy Sweet and Sour Pork tenderloin

Flavors Used:

Our main man Dan is back with a mouthwatering Spicy Sweet and Sour Pork tenderloin served with some boss sauce. The whole recipe is Dan-O-Myte! We hope you’ve been practicing popping that trigger finger because this calls for a very generous serving of both Dan-O’s Chipotle and Spicy Seasoning.

Gird Your Tenderloins

You may be wondering if you can substitute a pork loin for the tenderloin. While they’re both lean meats, Pork Loins are wider and flatter. Pork Loins  could potentially also  have a bone-in in them depending on the cut. Because of this difference in size, and shape, throwing a pork loin in this recipe may cause it to overcook and burn, leaving you with a dry unpleasant cut of meat. Now that we’re settled on the tenderloin, let’s discuss why it’s so important to marinate it before smoking. Like we stated before, the tenderloin is a lean meat. It’s so lean, that it can easily dry out if we don’t give it the extra love. But if we’re doing the marinade do we need the BBQ sauce? Well no, the BBQ isn’t a requirement, but it is going to give a lot of flavor. Plus, since we’re doing it right before it finishes smoking, that sauce is going to caramelize on the tenderloin and give it a nice mouthwatering texture and flavor.

Tenderloin: Eat right

Tenderloins offer a lot of food for such a small investment. Unless you’re serving a large group of people, you’re bound to have some left over. While eating this straight up with some boss sauce is great, it’s fun to switch things up with the leftovers. Here’s some ideas of what to do with your leftovers. A tenderloin sandwich with some boss sauce on the bread is a great option, and dress it up however you like. If you want a really quality sandwich that’s different than your standard, try a Banh Mi sandwich! Throw it in like a chef’s salad for a health kick. Use some Asian flair and make some pork fried rice, or pork lomein. There’s a ton more options for spicing up these leftovers, but no matter how you’re serving up this Spicy Sweet and Sour Pork tenderloin, you’ll be savoring every bite.

Ingredients

  • Pork tenderloin
  • Your Favorite BBQ Sauce

For the Marinade:

  • 1 cup Sour Mix, store bought or handmade
  • ½ cup Granulated Honey
  • ½ cup Dan-O’s Chipotle Seasoning

For the Boss Sauce:

  • 1 cup Sour cream
  • 4 tbsp Horseradish
  • Dan-O’s Spicy Seasoning

For the Sour mix (optional):

  • ½ cup of Lemon Juice
  • ½ cup of Simple Syrup (Simple Syrup is a 1:1 ratio of boiling hot water and granulated sugar)

Preparation Instructions

  1. Preheat a smoker to a temperature of 225°F
  2. Trim up your pork tenderloin’s excess fat and set to the side.
  3. In a large bag or container, combine 1 cup sour mix, ½ cup granulated honey, and ½ cup of Dan-O’s Chipotle seasoning. Throw in your tenderloin and let marinate for several hours, 4-6 preferably.
  4. Remove the tenderloin from the marinade, you can discard the marinade at this time. Apply a generous sprinkling of Dan-O’s  Chipotle back on the tenderloin and toss on to the smoker for about 2 hours
  5. At the two hour mark, open the smoker and brush on some of your favorite bbq sauce on to the tenderloin. Close the lid and smoke for another 30-60 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees fahrenheit.
  6. While the tenderloin finishes cooking, combine 1 cup sour cream with 4 generous tablespoons of horseradish and a generous sprinkling of Dan-O’s Spicy Seasoning. Stir to combine and set to the side.
  7. Remove the tenderloin from the smoker and let rest for 10 minutes before cutting into.
  8. Serve with your Dan-O’s Spicy Boss Sauce
  9. Enjoy!
