Also, find out why Dan-O’s makes the best chicken seasoning.

Ingredients

Chicken:

  • 4 chicken drumsticks
  • Dan-O’s Spicy Seasoning
  • Buttermilk
  • 1 medium egg
  • 2 cups whole wheat or all-purpose flour

Hot Honey:

  • 1 tsp Sriracha
  • ¼ cup raw honey
  • Dan-O’s Spicy Seasoning

Preparation Instructions

  1. On a large plate, season 4 chicken legs generously with Dan-Os Spicy. Pat the seasoning in and make sure every side is well coated.
  2. Transfer your seasoned chicken legs to a bowl along with the excess Dan-Os. Add whole buttermilk until each piece is well coated but not fully submerged. Whisk 1 medium egg very well then drop it into your bowl. Toss around with your hands or a spoon until each piece is covered in buttermilk. After marinating your chicken for at least 15 minutes it's time to bread!
  3. In a separate bowl, mix up your seasoned flour (2 cups whole wheat or all purpose flour plus 2 ½ tbsp Dan-Os original).
  4. Pick chicken legs up one by one and let excess liquid drip off for at least a few seconds. Drop each leg in your seasoned flour mixture and take your time when coating making sure to cover each one thoroughly. (Don’t forget to get under the skin for extra flavor and crispiness)
  5. Transfer the coated chicken to any type of bowl or dish and set aside.
  6. In a large pan, pour in 2 - 2.5 inches of high smoke point oil and preheat it on medium heat until 350 fahrenheit has been achieved. Gently shake off any excess flour then carefully drop in your chicken. Lightly move drumsticks around once per minute and flip them every 3-4 minutes to ensure even cooking and prevent burning.
  7. Cook for 12-15 minutes until 170 degrees internal temperature has been achieved.
  8. Transfer to a wire rack lined with paper towels to absorb extra oil. Place in an oven adjusted to its lowest setting to keep your chicken warm and crispy!
  9. Drizzle in Hot Honey sauce for flavor points.
  10. Enjoy!
