Homemade Chicken Nuggets

Crispy and tender chicken nuggets

The best part? You only need 5 ingredients to make them! This makes them perfect for a quick appetizer or as a whole meal. You can even prep these in advance and freeze them for easy access. History of the Chicken Nugget

The chicken nugget was invented in the 50s by a man named Robert C. Baker, a food science professor and Cornell University where he published it as unpatented academic work. The bit-sized piece of chicken is coated in batter, and then deep fried. Baker and his associates would refer to it as the “Chicken crispie”. Baker’s creation may sound inconsequential but it actually solved two major problems in the meat industry. One. The industry was having trouble being able to clump ground meat without a skin. Two they could not produce a batter coating that could be both deep fried and frozen without becoming detached. Baker’s innovation solved both these problems and made it possible to form chicken nuggets in any shape by first coating the meat in vinegar,salt,grains, and milk powder to hold it together and then using an egg and grain based batter that could be fried as well as frozen. 


  • 1 chicken breast
  • 1 cooked and deskinned russet potato
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp corn starch
  • Dan-O’s Spicy
  • Cooking spray

  1. Set an air fryer to 375 fahrenheit 
  2. Place chicken, potato, egg and corn starch in a food processor and mix until if forms a doughy texture
  3. Remove and form into round nugget shapes
  4. Air fry for 15 
  5. Flip and cook for an additional 5 minutes
  6. Enjoy!

  1. These do sound tasty and easy to make. I will shape and air fry them up. I will take some delicious bites while watching the Cougars move on to the final four. Where can you buy triple-threat aioli sauce?
