Here’s another recipe from Gram Gram of the Dan Fam, these German Potato Dumplings are the ultimate comfort food. They’re perfect for Gram Gram’s Rouladen where they’ll soak up the juices and gravy to make sure your plate is licked clean! These German Potato Dumplings are bound to be a favorite with your family as well.
Dan has fond memories of his Gram Gram working in the kitchen to prepare Beef Rouladen with gravy and these German Potato Dumplings. His family would all gather around and indulge in not just the comforts of this food, but the comforts of each other’s company and the love they shared. It’s Dan’s wish that when you prepare Gram Gram’s recipes for your own family, that you too will experience the joy and comfort of not just great food, but great people. Dan’s Gram Gram is no longer with us but her memories live on through her recipes, and the memories of her loved ones.
Ingredients
- 6 large potatoes (boiled skin on)
- 2 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp Dan-O’s Original Seasoning
- 2 cups flour
Preparation Instructions
- In a large pot boil 6 large russet potatoes to fork tender
- Remove from water and let cool for 20 minutes to an hour then peel (the jacket)
- In a bowl, strain potatoes through a potato ricer
- Add 2 cups flour, Dan-O’s, and salt and hand mix until firm
- Remove a small amount of of potato dough and roll into a ball (smaller than a baseball)
- Repeat for remaining potato dough
- Bring pot of water to a boil and add potato dough balls
- Remove when they float and plate to cool
- Cover with remaining gravy from Rouladen and serve. Enjoy!

I have got to try your gram grams German potato dumplings! They look amazing. I’ve always had my grams dumplings, for Chicken and Dumplings. We make the little ball size dumplings not the flat rolled out ones. I believe I’ll be making your gram grams one in the next few day. Thanks for sharing.
