A Dantastic meal or side
It may not be bovine, but these cheesy cauliflower steaks are divine! Crisp cauliflower seasoned to perfection with Dan-O’s and melted mozzarella are just the perfect meal for when you’re trying to cut back on your red meats. We used freshly shredded mozzarella cheese for this recipe, but you could try anything from muenster to gouda to sharp cheddar. Feel free to experiment with your favorite cheeses to make a cheesy cauliflower steak that works for you.
What cauliflower variety should I use for cheesy cauliflower steaks?
There’s 4 main varieties of cauliflower: White, green, purple, and orange. The most common is white, it’s the one most folks are accustomed to. Green cauliflower, which also goes by “broccoflower” due to its green hue and florets. Green cauliflower is more fibrous than other varieties. Purple cauliflower gets its color from antioxidants called anthocyanins, it’s the healthiest cauliflower you can get. Finally, orange cauliflower, or cheddar cauliflower, is a mild, creamy, and slightly sweet variety.
It really comes down to preference which one you use for cheesy cauliflower steaks but either basic white, or orange would be our top choices. All cauliflower is high in fiber, and a good source of antioxidants in addition to other vitamins and minerals.
