2023 Derby Burger “The G.O.A.T.” by Brian Capps

The G.O.A.T. burger is the winner of the 2023 Kentucky Derby Festival 11th Annual Derby Burger Competition. Created by Brian Capps, who’d previously won in 2021, this burger combines high quality beef with Dan-O’s Spicy, artisan fig spread, hot honey, and spicy goat cheese on top of a perfectly toasted roll. Capps told Spectrum News 1 that he “Wanted to try something harder for this competition, and really challenge myself. I was trying to create flavors from a cheese board and wanted those flavors on a burger.” The 2023 derby burger is certified Dan-O-Myte.
You definitely feel like it’s a perfect mixture of charcuterie board and classic hamburger with the G.O.A.T.
Ingredients
- Kentucky Cattleman’s Ground Beef
- Roll bun
- Dalmatia Fig Spread (Original)
- Goat cheese
- Mike’s Hot Honey
- Spring mix
- Dan-O’s Spicy Original
Preparation Instructions
- Heat a griddle over medium-high heat.
- Take your roll bun and cut them in half.
- Take your ground beef and mix with Dan-O’s Spicy Seasoning before forming into patties.
- Cook the burger patty to desired doneness, and toast the buns.
- Take your toasted buns, and spread Dalmatia fig spread on them, then the patty before topping with goat cheese, hot honey, and spring mix. Serve and enjoy!
