Helping Victims of the Western Kentucky Tornadoes

Published Wednesday, December 15th, 2021 / 3:53 PM

KENTUCKY – Disaster struck in the middle of the night on Dec. 10th and 11th. Four tornadoes hit four states in a matter of hours. Our home state of Kentucky was the hardest hit of all. This was the largest series of tornadoes in this region’s history. Many lives were lost and countless homes were destroyed. Many families’ lives were changed forever.

Here at Dan-O’s, we are working with Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS). They are running a  JCPS Stuff the Bus Event. This is a donation drop-off event where you can donate needed supplies.

These supplies include:

  • bottled water
  • tarps
  • baby food & formula
  • diapers
  • canned & boxed food
  • hygiene products.

This horrific natural disaster hits close to home for all of us at Dan-O’s. We want to do everything we can to help those affected. We are dropping off a trailer full of supplies including pallets full of water.

If you live in the Louisville area and would like to get involved, JCPS will be accepting donations up until Friday, Dec. 17th. Please visit their website for more information

If you are not in this area or would like to know other ways to get involved, we curated some various ways our amazing fans can help too. Below we wanted to point to some amazing organizations that are truly making a difference.

Help UKCOM students achieve their fundraising goal of $175,000 on GoFundMe:
“These funds will aid us in helping local organizations that are providing aid to those displaced and in need of supplies, etc. We will be using the funds to directly supply those organizations with a monetary donation, and also to purchase additional supplies that are needed the most by our communities, whether that be clothing, food, etc.”

Salvation Army Disaster Relief Fund

“Trained personnel from across the state of Kentucky and Tennessee are assessing the damage and working closely with state and local authorities to meet human needs during this difficult and devastating weather event. Specialized equipment has already been sent from Nashville, TN to Bowling Green, KY, including mobile canteens, for meal service. Meals and drinks are being supplied to first responders and community members in Dawson Springs, KY. The Salvation Army team in Owensboro, KY is serving meals in Ohio County for first responders and displaced residents from the storm. We are currently working with local authorities in Mayfield, KY, the hardest hit community, to determine the best response from The Salvation Army, once search and rescue is complete and safe entry is determined.”

See the Fundraiser Here.

United Way of Kentucky

“Kentucky’s United Way network is working with emergency management, disaster partners and local communities to support services for families impacted by the devastating tornado event of December 10 and 11, 2021.”

There are many other fantastic organizations that are working hard to help those in need including churches, non-profit organizations, and local community leaders. We are so proud of the response to this horrific tragedy that our state has received and the incredible willingness to help. If you are able please donate to one of the organizations or fundraisers listed above.
