Potatoes Au Gratin

Potatoes Au Gratin

Flavors Used:

My friends, we’re taking dehydrated potatoes, tossing those little sauce packets aside, and making our own creamy, cheesy sauce the Dan-O’s way! Velveeta and cream cheese make these potatoes extra rich and creamy, while Dan-O’s Original Seasoning and Dan-O’s SPG Tri-O bring plenty of savory flavor. Then we’re finishing the whole thing with shredded Colby Jack and Dan-O’s Cheesoning for that crispy, cheesy top. Trust the process, my friends—these potatoes come out creamy, cheesy, and seriously Dan-Good!

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Dan-O’s Original Seasoning
  • 1 tbsp Dan-O’s SPG Tri-O (Salt, Pepper, Garlic)
  • 1 tbsp Dan-O’s Cheesoning
  • 2 boxes dehydrated scalloped potato slices, sauce packets removed and discarded
  • 8 oz Velveeta cheese, cubed
  • 8 oz cream cheese, cubed
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 3¼ cups water
  • 2 cups shredded Colby Jack cheese

Preparation Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F. Remove and discard the sauce packets from the dehydrated potatoes. Add the dried potato slices to a 9 x 13-inch baking dish and spread them into an even layer.
  2. Make the Cheese Sauce: Add the Velveeta, cream cheese, heavy whipping cream, and water to a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir in the Dan-O’s Original Seasoning and Dan-O’s SPG Tri-O. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and simmer, stirring frequently, until the cheeses are completely melted and the sauce is smooth.
  3. Add the Cheese Sauce: Carefully pour the hot cheese sauce evenly over the dehydrated potatoes, making sure all of the potato slices are coated and submerged as evenly as possible. The mixture will look very saucy at this point, but the dried potatoes will absorb much of the liquid as they bake.
  4. Cover and Bake: Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil or a lid. Bake at 400°F for 40–45 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork and the sauce has thickened and become creamy.
  5. Add the Cheese Topping: Carefully remove the baking dish from the oven and uncover it. Sprinkle the shredded Colby Jack cheese evenly over the potatoes, then season the top with Dan-O’s Cheesoning.
  6. Bake Uncovered: Return the baking dish to the 400°F oven and bake uncovered for about 18 minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted and the top is golden brown with crispy edges.
  7. Cool and Serve: Let the potatoes rest for 5–10 minutes before serving. Serve and Yum Yum Get Ya Sum!
