If you love French onion soup, you’re gonna love this French onion burger. We’re mixing Dan-O’s Dips French Onion right into the beef, use 1 packet for a milder onion vibe or 2 packets if you want it full-on French onion flavor. My favorite part is taking yellow onions low and slow with butter, a little olive oil, and a kiss of Kentucky bourbon until they’re rich, sweet, and loaded with flavor. Pile those onions on a toasted bun with a slice of baby Swiss and you’ve got a burger that deserves a spot on menus everywhere.
Ingredients
- 2 packets Dan-O's Dips French Onion
- 2½ pounds 80/20 ground beef
- 2 medium-large yellow onions, sliced longways relatively thin
- ½ stick butter, divided
- 2 tbsp olive oil, divided
- 1 oz Kentucky bourbon
- 4 burger buns
- 4 slices baby Swiss cheese
Preparation Instructions
- Mix the burger meat: Add the ground beef to a bowl. Mix in 1 1⁄2 packets of Dan-O's Dips French Onion until well combined. Set burger meat aside.
- Cook the onions (low and slow). Heat a pan on high. Add ¼ stick of butter and 1 tbsp olive oil. Add the onions and cook for about 3 minutes. Add the Kentucky bourbon. Stir in the remaining ½ packet of Dan-O’s Dips French Onion. Cover, reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer for 30 minutes.
- Form the patties: Divide the meat into 4 equal portions and roll into burger balls. Place a burger ball on parchment paper; top with another parchment sheet. Press with the flat bottom of a plate to form an even patty. Repeat for all patties.
- Toast the buns: Heat a griddle until hot. Add the remaining olive oil and butter. Toast buns cut-side down until golden. Set aside.
- Cook the burgers: Place patties on the hot griddle. Cook for a couple minutes, then flip. Continue cooking until they’re nearly done.
- Top with onions + baby Swiss: Spoon the cooked French onion onions onto each burger. Top each with 1 slice of baby Swiss and let it melt.
- Build and serve: Place burgers on toasted buns and serve hot. Yum Yum Get Ya Sum!
