The Derby P.L.T Burger is the winner of the 2024 Kentucky Derby Festival 12th Annual Derby Burger Competition. Out of 4 finalists from dozens of entries, this burger, created by Stacy Hoehle, was chosen as winner by the judges, including our own Dan-O. This burger uses high quality Cattleman's beef with Dan-O’s Spicy Seasoning, pimento cheese, remoulade, and a crispy fried green tomato slice on a brioche bun.

Hoehle’s burger recipe will be featured at Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront, which runs from April 25 through May 3. The recipe will also be featured inside Kroger stores.

Ingredients

  • 16oz Kentucky Cattlemen's 80/20 Ground Beef
  • 1 tbsp Dan-O's Spicy Seasoning
  • 4 Brioche Buns
  • 4 Butter Lettuce Leaves
  • 4 Fried Green Tomato slices to desired thickness
  • 4 tbsp Remoulade
  • 3oz Pimento Cheese
  • 1/4 red onion, thinly sliced

Preparation Instructions

  1. Combine ground beef and 1 tbsp Dan-O's Spicy
  2. Form four tightly packed burger patties
  3. Grill or pan fry burgers to desired doneness
  4. Warm brioche buns
  5. Dress bottom bun with one leaf of lettuce, red onion slices, and 1 tbsp remoulade
  6. Top with burger patty, slice of fried green tomato, about a tbsp of pimento cheese and top bun.
